Chicago’s City Council passed an ordinance that reinstates policies that expand outdoor dining in Chicago. This ordinance will permit restaurants and taverns to serve customers near the curb, on the sidewalks of adjacent buildings, and in parking areas in proper situations. The ordinance also permits street closures to support local restaurants and taverns should various conditions be satisfied.
The SBAC is proud to partner with policymakers at all levels of government to move advance policies that support small businesses and neighborhood business districts. Thank you to Alderman Matt Martin for your partnership!
Alderman Matt Martin released the following statement on this important ordinance.
"Small businesses are indispensable to creating and maintaining dynamic communities. I'm proud that the City Council and the Johnson administration came together to pass a new Expanded Outdoor Dining ordinance that codified many opportunities that helped hundreds of Chicago businesses weather the worst periods of the Covid-19 pandemic. I look forward to continued partnership with SBAC and others to ensure that this important step is the first of many in this new term regarding supporting our small businesses."
